- About us
Tanzania is one of the most beautiful countries in East Africa, containing amazing game reserves, such as Ngorongoro and the Serengeti, as well as being host to the roof of Africa, and highest free standing mountain in the world; Mount Kilimanjaro. From the palm-fringed sands of Zanzibar on the coast, to the fabulous bush scenery near Arusha, there is no better way of experiencing Africa in safe and happy surroundings.
We work collaboratively with our local partners to develop programs, which take a long term and holistic view of improving the health of disadvantaged communities. Through this challenge volunteers will provide health education to children and the wider community and at the same time improve spoken English.
We promise an authentic experience that you won’t forget!

Once you arrive in Tanzania you will be met by our Tanzanian team and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha. You will have a brief orientation and a settling in period with an introductory meal.
On the second day you will have your full orientation and visit the project you’ll be working on. We’ll brief you on your schedule for the week and any other information to get you prepared for the two weeks ahead. You will also get the chance to visit some of the local sites.
As a volunteer on our Health Promotion Challenge in Tanzania we really feel that you will be benefiting our partner communities the most out of all the countries where we work in the world. The main focus will be on education initiatives that build the capacity of local organisation’s and schools by providing health education to the poorest children, adolescents and adults within the community who have experienced multiple levels of disadvantage. Volunteers are encouraged to use their enthusiasm and creativity to develop an engaging and fun program for the children utilising games, activities, sports and any other interactive activities.
Volunteers can teach children about a range of subjects such as how to eat a balanced diet, the importance of physical activity, general hygiene, dental hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality and why it’s important to go to the doctor! There may be an opportunity to promote pre- natal health for midwifery students.
The daily schedule and focus of this Health Promotion Challenge will depend on the groups own interests and abilities. This would suit a range of students including Nursing, Nutrition, Exercise Science, Midwifery and Pharmacy. All you need is a passion to improve the health of communities abroad and the enthusiasm to work with children. You’ll find out more information on your project details nearer to your departure.
Today you have the option to catch the transfer back to the airport or continue your journey on our optional extension trip (Highly Recommended!)
Extend your trip and take part in a 6 day extension which includes a 3 day safari for just $995. Check out the ‘Extension Itinerary’ tab for more details!
Tanzania offers some of Africa’s finest game viewing. This extension visits one of the major National Parks for an exciting combination of wildlife experiences. The vast open plains of Serengeti are home to the big cats – cheetah, leopard, lion; plus vast herds of wildebeest, zebra and other small plains game. Ngorongoro crater is an expansive natural wonder, watch out for the rare black rhino and see the hippos splashing playfully in pools. Lake Manyara affords much chance to see large tusked elephant and maybe even a tree climbing lion. Camping gives you an added feeling of being close to nature – closer sometimes than you might expect!
Extend your trip by 6 days and take part in a 3 day safari for just $995.
Today gives you the opportunity to explore a little further afield from Arusha. Visiting Lake Doluti gives the opportunity for both a walking trip and canoeing on the lake itself. This is an extraordinary way to get up close to the wildlife and also witness the dramatic setting of the lake within a volcanic crater.
Today you’ll set out for Tarangire National Park at 9am. Packed lunch in hand, you’ll be witness to an area of natural beauty which houses one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in the world. Be sure to take your camera today as Tarangire National Park plays host to a smorgasbord of migratory predators, zebra, eland and elephants as well as the spectacularly vivacious yellow-collared lovebirds who are amongst the countless animals that call Tarangire home.
Praised by Ernest Hemingway as ‘the loveliest in Africa’, Lake Manyara is the heart of Manyara National Park. Beginning the day with a game drive you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch followed by the contrast of Manyara’s lush jungle-like ground-water forests and the alkaline lake. It’s thought that even an untrained eye should expect to see 100 species of birdlife here and these stalks and pink-hued flamingos are certainly not your standard blue tit or pigeon! Late afternoon you’ll head back to the campsite to rest up before tomorrow.
Meals: Breakfast and Lunch
You’ll have an early start today before you descend in to the Ngorongoro Crater. Here, in the remnants of what could have once been a soaring volcanic mountain as high as Kilimanjaro, you’ll follow a guided tour and be bystander to the 30,000 animals of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the world’s last remaining Black Rhinos before returning to Arusha in the late afternoon.
You’ll have the opportunity to visit Arusha National Park just a short trip from Arusha town. This gives a fantastic opportunity to go on a walking safari at the foot of Mt Meru, while taking in the awesome views of Mt Kilimanjaro.
Today you have one a last chance to grab some souvenirs before transferring to Kilimanjaro airport for your flight home.
