- About us
Volunteers teaching in Nepal mostly teach English but can incorporate other subjects according to their own areas of interest. This can include sport, music and drama.
Students at the schools are aged between 4 and 16 and class sizes vary. Resources are minimal and sufficient numbers of teachers are often lacking, meaning there is a real need for support from gap year volunteers. As a volunteer in Nepal, you can bring energy and enthusiasm to community schools and compensate for the lack of basic resources that restricts the quality of education they can provide.
For those seeking a more varied experience your volunteer work can extend to a range of extra-curricular activities at the schools, or to personal language tuition or teacher training for local staff.
This is fantastic volunteer teaching program that allows you to gain an insight into Nepalese education and culture, while making a difference to the education of disadvantaged students. The physical conditions at the schools are often basic and it can be challenging to teach without much equipment, but the children are always eager to learn, making it a rewarding gap year experience.
Volunteers can use their energy, enthusiasm and creativity to provide interactive, fun-based learning activities for the students. Good communication skills, empathy and patience will help you to make the most of this teaching project, and gap year volunteers should be prepared to immerse themselves in a new culture and different way of life.
Historically Nepal has been a crossroads of culture and commerce and a dividing line between civilisations and religions. A gap year or career break in Nepal is an opportunity to discover the country’s diverse and charming peoples, as well as the spectacular Himalayan scenery that dominates its culture.
This volunteer project is based in the Kavre district about an hour from bustling Kathmandu. Kathmandu is the capital city of Nepal and its mystical monasteries and temples make it a special location to volunteer abroad. The city acts as a hub for all visitors to Nepal and its mix of cultures gives it a bustling, multicultural atmosphere.
The biggest attraction for any volunteer in Nepal has got to be the spectacular Himalayan mountain scenery. Nepal is famous for trekking and Mount Everest and Annapurna present exciting high altitude challenges for those seeking adventure.
Volunteers fly into Kathmandu where they will be met at the airport by a member of our in-country team and transferred to their project location
It is likely you will be placed in a small guesthouse or with a local family in a rural area of the Kavre district, near to incredible hiking opportunities. However, Kathmandu will not be too far and there you can experience a wide variety of freshly cooked food from street vendors, shops and sites.
