- About us
Spend your internship in some of the most incredible destinations in the world, while being an integral part of a grassroots charity. This internship is an opportunity to get relevant and focused experience working with an international development charity in one of seven countries in which we work. Your role will include working alongside our team to lead and expand existing programs whilst researching avenues for future development. We will use your individual skill set to target key areas of the community to progress.
You’ll also be able to get involved in many other exciting day-to-day activities. Through challenging projects and teaching opportunities you’ll develop crucial transferable skills whilst making a huge impact to local communities across the world.
Challenges Abroad works to support it’s international development charity, the FutureSense Foundation (FSF). FSF works across 7 countries, although only in one central geographical area across each country, in the areas of child welfare, education and livelihoods. FSF’s goal is build a brighter future for our community partners and is committed to delivering the UN Global development Goals by 2030.
Our internships are a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the workings of a small NGO at the grassroots level while also immersing yourself in a new culture and way of life. You will join our passionate and dedicated teams on the ground to explore in more depth the local community and their customs in a culturally sensitive way. You will work alongside our local teams to help set up or strengthen the programs within the chosen country.
This internship will provide students studying Global Studies the opportunity to apply their knowledge and understanding in a completely different setting to what they are typically used to. It is particularly beneficial to students studying Education, Law, Health, Media and Business. The skills and knowledge obtained in these degrees are ideally matched with the focus of our programs and improving livelihoods for the weakest sections of each community. The innovative approaches that interns bring, enable us to develop a range of programs that understand the issues faced in-country, raise awareness and, in the long term, address community development.
We work within underprivileged communities to enhance their life skills by providing in-depth research and workshops in topics aimed at community development. Though resources may be limited, throughout the program interns are supported directly by our in country teams who live and work in the community all year round. They are an amazing resource of information and support for interns, who are ultimately pushed outside their comfort zone (in the best possible way). You have weekends off and over the 10-12 weeks, you have a lot of time to explore the country – another perk!
Whilst on project you could be sharing your knowledge either with children at their schools, by building a new focused curriculum, or by helping develop programs for the improvement of people in the local community. As your in-country aims will be dependant on your own interests and skills, the variety of tasks you could be completing are broad. We will tailor your internship to what you hope to achieve in country and with the local community in order to design a mutually beneficial project. Whatever your overarching aims are, you will be providing invaluable assistance and research to an underdeveloped community in need.
When you are ready to book, you will have the opportunity to chose a preferred month of departure. You can arrive on any Saturday within each month. To sign on to one of the internships you’ll need to pay a $500 deposit, with the remainder spread over monthly instalments.
