Working with children always means that you need bundles of energy! You will be teaching in the school in the mornings and then leading activities in the afternoons. During the mornings, volunteers will interact with the children to improve their English language and social skills. You could use nursery rhymes, games or other activities to engage the children and keep them occupied and interested in learning. However, this project is about you bringing your own skills, enthusiasm and personality to inspire the children and improve their quality of learning and life.
This project aims to provide the children with a safe, engaging and happy environment where they are able to continue their education. It is also a place where children are encouraged to express themselves through taking part in extracurricular activities.
The school day finishes after lunch and volunteers will then work at an after school club project. At the after school club, volunteers will need to be creative and proactive in organising and leading activities. These could range from helping with homework to music shows and sports activities… almost anything that you think children would enjoy!
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with some amazing children and have lots of fun. The children are very welcoming and you will enjoy interacting with them and helping them learn. The children come from low-socio economic backgrounds and have very limited options in life so this is a great way to have an impact on the future of these children in Peru.
Cusco is the ideal destination for travellers looking to get the most from their experience whilst in South America. Cusco is located perfectly to experience Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley, and Lake Titicaca, as well as some of Peru’s lesser-known hidden treasures like Arequipa and the Colca Canyon and the sand dunes at Huacachina.
Peru is the intriguingly iconic land of the Incas and one of the most enchanting places on earth; from the astonishing and ancient city of Machu Picchu to the Amazon rainforest; from the Colca canyons to the man-made reed islands of Lake Titicaca: floating homes for an ancient culture that has remained much the same.
This program is located in Cusco, in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of 3,399m (11,152ft) above sea level, Cusco is the perfect setting to volunteer abroad in Peru. Cusco is a mix of ancient, old and new. The vibrant historic centre provides endless hours of exploring and the surrounding areas are perfect for those looking for adventure.
Cusco is the ideal destination to base yourself during your gap year in South America. From the city you can visit indigenous markets and Incan ruins as well as mountain biking, horse back riding and white water rafting in the Sacred Valley. Travelling further afield to the beautiful city of Arequipa, the Colca Canyon and Lake Titicaca on the border of Bolivia is also easy to do. Large coaches are used for long-distance travel between cities. The buses vary in level of comfort and price but most tourist class buses have reclining seats, videos, refreshments, and bathrooms.
Volunteers can fly into Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport in Cusco and will be met at the airport and transferred to their accommodation.
