You will spend your internship working in a small student group alongside our local team in Northern Thailand’s remote Hill Tribe villages. You will have the opportunity to get real hands on experience of grass roots community development programs. Your role will include developing a Social Impact Plan that encompasses the needs of each village, the programs that could be offered to address these needs and the types of measures that could be introduced to measure community impact. This plan will be used to influence future programs and relationships with new partner villages. You will be immersed in a vibrant culture and through this challenging project you’ll develop crucial transferable skills whilst making a huge impact to the villagers’ lives.

Our volunteer house and local team are based in Mai Sariang which is a regional city in Northern Thailand. Our organisation is currently partnered with 5 of the 13 villages that make up the sub district bordering the city. Our goal is to work in partnership with all the 13 villages to offer them support in the key areas of health, education and livelihoods support. As with any successful development project it is imperative that we are meeting the community needs, rather than our perceived idea of their needs. With the support of our staff on the ground, students on this internship will assist us to understand the unique cultural, social and economic atmosphere of each village and conduct a needs assessment that will be used to influence potential development program opportunities, enabling us to expand our reach to more children and families. Interns may also work in one or more of our current partner villages to assist with monitoring the effectiveness and overall impact of our current programs.
Students will live and work in the community for the duration of the program. By understanding the unique cultures of the different Hill Tribes, the social and environmental issues as well as the nature of any economic activity, students will be able to effectively work with the local community to achieve their shared goal of developing a Social Impact Plan for each of the villages and paving the way for continued support and collaboration between CAA and each village.
Students will work to:
Students will be provided a detailed schedule roughly 4-6 weeks prior to their departure. The program will run from Monday to Friday each week to carry out the activities listed above. During the weekends students are free to relax and explore.
Firstly, this internship will be a great opportunity to learn about international community development and the unique cultures of Northern Thailand. Secondly, living and working overseas will offer a platform for personal development, taking you outside your comfort zone where you will gain new skills and grow as an individual.
Finally, as a program intern your work will benefit the local communities we support and you will have the opportunity to leave a legacy and your unique handprint on the program!
