- About us
Volunteer in exciting Thailand working with incredible organisations that will leave both a lasting impression on you and the communities around.
Although Thailand is increasingly being seen as a developed destination, it still has many economic and social issues. The truth is that although many of the islands have become westernised the majority of Thailand experiences multiple levels of economic and social disadvantage.
As Thailand develops it is facing many social issues and marginalised groups, particularly children, often don’t receive the care and support they need. The Buddhist schools and communities we work with are amazing institutions, working for progressive change within their communities. However, they are poorly funded and appreciate the collaborative partnership with Challenges Abroad Australia and our volunteers to support them in assisting the most needy and neglected.
Volunteering in Thailand will definitely have an impact on your life…forever!
Once you arrive in Chiang Mai, you will be met by one of our in-country team and transferred to your accommodation. You will have an orientation and a settling in period with an introductory meal before the hard work starts!
Volunteer with our partner schools and give invaluable help to a grassroots organisation in real need. Volunteers will take part in an unforgettable hands-on experience of a lifetime. Previous Challenges Abroad volunteers have built football pitches, redecorated libraries and run sports tournaments. Weekends are free to travel independently; our team will be happy to point you in the right direction whether it be trekking or shopping!
Traveling north from Chiang Mai the Northern Thailand Tour will give you the opportunity to see more of what Thailand has to offer. Sights include the famous White Temple, Wat Thampla, Chiang Dao caves and Pai canyons. Going as far as the Laos and Myanmar borders this is a trip not to be missed!
The best of Northern Thailand in 7 days for $800 only.
Starting early from Chiang Mai the first stop will be the famous White Temple, Wat Rong Khun, to see the extraordinary murals by the Thai artist, Chalermchai Kositpipat. From there you will hike to a waterfall to swim and relax. The day will end in Chiang Rai with the opportunity to explore its nightlife.
Today’s first visit is to Wat Thampla, also known as the Monkey Temple! Its unique mountainside location gives an amazing opportunity to see monkeys up close. The afternoon will be spent exploring the markets of Mae Sai on the border between Thailand & Myanmar, before heading back to Chiang Rai.
The Opium museum on the edge of the Golden Triangle region provides a very interesting view of the history of the opium trade and the part Thailand played in it. After that you will head to the point where Myanmar, Laos and Thailand meet on the Mekong River for a boat ride and quick stop in Laos!
After a final night sampling the delights of Chiang Mai today you will travel to Chiang Dao for an amazing hike in the famous local caves. En route you will stop in Fang and Thaton where there are opportunities to go bamboo rafting, see elephants and much more! Tonight will be spent in Chiang Dao.
Today we will head to the famous city of Pai for a day of relaxation! Nestled in a beautiful valley it is the place to enjoy nature, have a massage and chill out. On arrival you are free to do what you want, though we will be more than happy to give suggestions!
This morning you will visit the Pai canyons and a massive waterfall to enjoy the sun, go for a swim and make the most of your final full day in Thailand.
