We ensure that students who embark on a journey with Challenges Abroad are able to have a positive impact on the world and feel the power of being a Global Citizen. We continuously evaluate our impact across three key areas: student, community and environmental impact.
We measure the impact of our programs by assessing growth across 10 key skill areas that reflect real-world learning and personal development.
These outcomes capture the essential transferable skills students build throughout their experience - including communication, adaptability, problem-solving, and cultural intelligence - ensuring every program delivers meaningful, measurable impact that extends far beyond the classroom.
Every Challenges Abroad program supports the goals and objectives of our international development charity, the FutureSense Foundation.
Participants on a Challenges Abroad program are therefore, not only directly impacting the community through their project, but are part of a sustainable community development initiative that will have a long lasting, positive impact.
As a social enterprise, we have provided the majority of funding to our nonprofit foundation, The FutureSense Foundation, with a commitment of a minimum of 2% of sales revenue being donated each year. In the year 22/23, we donated 6% of revenue, and in the year 23/24 we donated 7% of revenue.
We have partnered with a certified carbon offset provider to calculate and neutralise the carbon footprint generated by our programs. We are investing in recognised initiatives and reforestation projects in Kenya, Madagascar and Nepal, supporting the local community in the area and neutralising carbon emissions.
We also encourage students to participate in activities like tree planting and reducing plastic use, helping to make a positive environmental impact.
In 2024, over 47,000 trees were planted through climate action initiatives!
