Globally, 3.6 billion people live without access to safe toilets. Among them are 400 million children who attend schools without proper sanitation. In schools across low-income communities, especially in rural areas, students are forced to use unsafe, unhygienic facilities - or sometimes even go without entirely.
At one of FutureSense Foundation’s local partner schools, this is the daily reality for hundreds of girls. Without private, functional toilets, they face embarrassment, missed school days, and even long-term dropout risks - particularly during menstruation. No girl should have to choose between her dignity and her education.
We believe access to safe sanitation is a basic human right - and something we can all work together to change.
We’re raising $13,500 to build 22 new toilet blocks. That’s approximately $625 per toilet to help create a healthier, safer and more inclusive learning environment for 455 girls.
To kickstart things, Challenges Abroad is contributing $6,260 towards the first phase of the project – the construction of 10 out of the 22 new toilet blocks. This phase of the project will begin in June, while the school is on break, to ensure zero disruption to learning. All work will be carried out in collaboration with local builders and community leaders to support sustainability and long-term maintenance.
That means we now have just $7,240 left to raise to fully fund the final phase of this vital project.
By contributing to this campaign, you’re not just funding bricks and mortar - you’re supporting the long-term wellbeing, education, and empowerment of hundreds of young girls.
Safe, clean toilets help prevent hygiene-related illnesses, which are common when students are exposed to unsanitary conditions.
With proper facilities, girls are more likely to stay in school, concentrate in class, and participate fully in their education - especially during their menstrual cycles.
A private, hygienic space restores dignity and confidence. For many girls, having access to a toilet means no longer missing days of school or suffering in silence.
This project is being carried out with the full support of the local community, ensuring the new toilets are well maintained and truly meet the needs of the school.
