About Thailand

When you volunteer in Thailand with Challenges Abroad you’ll have the opportunity to see a more authentic side to the country away from popular tourist areas. You’ll be based at our hub in the stunning town of Mae Sariang and its neighbouring Hill Tribe villages, surrounded by temples, rice patty fields and incredible mountain views that you’ll be able to explore in your free time from volunteering.

You will also be able to spend some time in Chiang Mai, the northern city just 4 hours from Mae Sariang and full of travellers, eclectic culture and amazing food! Here you can use your time when you’re not volunteering to unwind and explore some incredible sites like the Chiang Mai Canyon and Doi Suthep Mountain. You might even like to spend the day at our partner elephant sanctuary.

Volunteer programs in Thailand

Despite its booming tourism industry, Thailand still faces a range of social and economic issues, with rural areas lacking essential services that are available in bigger cities. Many people living in rural parts of Thailand are living on the poverty line and lack access to quality education, healthcare and income generation opportunities, which is why we need your help to make a positive impact.

You can choose from a range of volunteering projects to make an impact in Thailand with Challenges Abroad, including:

Make an ethical impact when volunteering in Thailand

In Mae Sariang and the Hill Tribes, you will be volunteering with our charity, the FutureSense Foundation. Our FutureSense Thailand team are based in Mae Sariang year-round and work alongside the local community to make sure that our volunteer programs are meeting current needs and are part of a long-term plan that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through this model our volunteers are able to make a contribution that will have an ongoing, positive impact in the community.

We are committed to ensuring that our volunteer programs in Thailand and around the world are ethical and sustainable, while safeguarding children that we work with and fostering global citizenship. You can learn more about our sustainable development projects in Thailand by visiting the FutureSense website.
