It’s tough times at the moment for all our travellers out there, with delayed plans and uncertainty about when we will be able to head overseas again (fingers crossed it will be sooner than we think!). We’re really missing our volunteers this year, but we are keeping the positivity flowing and looking at new ways of doing things (have you heard about our webinars?).

We have come across something that we want to share with you because we think it might just help appease your travel bug for the time being... what if we told you that you could see places like Machu Picchu from the comfort of your couch

Machu Picchu Virtual Tour

It’s true! You can stand at the iconic photo site of Machu Picchu, looking down at the Huayna Picchu mountain and the Inca city. But you can also walk through the stone city below too. Speaking from experience of being there, the virtual tour really does make you feel like you are walking around the Inca city. And what’s great about this tour is that you will be sure to have great weather, there are no queues and you can literally walk through the walls!

But be careful – we're pretty sure you’ll need to go and see Machu Picchu in person yourself after you complete this tour! If this is the case, head on over to our Machu Picchu Challenge and get planning (July 2021 anyone?)

The Taj Mahal virtual tour

Another beautiful wonder worth checking out is the Taj Mahal. With so many different visual levels you can see more than you ever could being on the ground. From a bird's eye view of the ivory-white marble mausoleum to roaming around inside you have the chance to see it all. But, again without the crowds and commotion. This virtual tour even allows you to stand at either ends on top of the red sandstone buildings, with a great visual of the reflecting pool!

The magic of the Taj Mahal is so strong that you’ll probably want to get even closer and see it in person! Check out some of our India volunteer programs where you could visit on the extension trip next summer

Angkor Wat virtual tour

One of our most popular destinations is Cambodia and the beautiful sunrise at Angkor Wat. This site is easily accessible through your standard Google Maps! Just search Angkor Wat on your laptop and drop the little yellow man over it and then you’re in. Walk around the magical stone floor and through the temple walls.

Want to make a difference in Cambodia next year and spend your weekend at Angkor Wat? Check out our future programs

We realise it’s not the same, but we think it’s pretty cool that we have the option to travel the world in the comfort of our pyjamas. These are just a few of our favourites but there are hundreds of virtual tours available and most of them are free! We hope this lifts your little travelling hearts and you can get a little travel fix.

If you want to make a difference to our overseas communities without volunteering overseas, you can donate to our charity. Every donation up to $250 is redeemable as a discount on one of our future volunteer programs!
