On this volunteer challenge you will spend two weeks working on a range of health promotion interventions in Palampur aimed at increasing community awareness of key health issues. You will be challenged to step out of your comfort zone and think creatively while being part of a long-term solution to improving overall community health.
If you have work experience or are studying in a field related to medicine, nursing, public health, biomedicine, allied healthcare or science, our India Health Promotion Challenge is perfect for you!
You will be volunteering with local community members including school children, teachers and parents to deliver health workshops focusing on important health topics like hygiene and sanitation, human anatomy and bodily function, diet and nutrition, mental health, girls and women’s health and non-communicable diseases. These workshops will play a big role in increasing the overall health of the community because locals will receive the knowledge they need to keep themselves and their families healthy.
Following an induction and orientation when you arrive, your volunteering days will be Monday-Friday with the weekend free to do your own travel. We recommend heading to nearby Dharamshala to visit the home of the Dalai Lama and the exiled Tibetan government, or if you’re more of an adrenaline junkie you could go paragliding from the second highest location in the world!
After your volunteer program you can join our optional extension trip for $950 and spend a week on the most spectacular tour of India! You'll begin by heading to Amristar where you'll visit the Golden Temple and watch the famous lowering of the flags ceremony at the Wagah Border. Next up is Agra where you'll spend time exploring the Red Fort, local markets and the one and only Taj Mahal! Your final destination will be Delhi where you'll visit the Old and New cities and have plenty of time to do you own exploring before catching your flight home.
I had a fantastic experience and learnt so much. Being immersed in the culture at both the schools was valuable and captivating. I was able to gain a number of skills and knowledge and hopefully made a big impact on the communities we engaged with. I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone considering it.Caitlyn Rowe - University of Technology Sydney
