PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Mae Sariang and its surrounding hill tribe villages face many challenges when it comes to the education system. Being a remote area there are issues relating to a lack of funding, overcrowding and teacher quality. Students are disengaged, there are high drop-out rates and of those who do graduate primary school, many do not have a basic proficiency in core subjects.

How You Can Help

Our charity the FutureSense Foundation is working year round with the local community to develop and implement programs that address these issues and improve education quality. As an education intern, you will be assisting this work. Some of the projects you could be involved in include:

  • Conducting research to understand the complex issues affecting education in the local area.

  • Developing curricula that will engage children in their education and fill current knowledge gaps.

  • Running workshops to help up-skill local teachers.

  • Delivering lessons at local schools that allow children to learn in a hands-on manner and develop crucial life skills.

Internship Structure

When you arrive in Thailand you’ll be met by our team at the airport. Over the next few days you’ll have a thorough induction and orientation where you’ll learn about Thai customs and culture, get your bearings around town, meet community partners and gain a better understanding of the context of the projects you’re working on.

For the rest of your internship you'll work with FutureSense Monday - Friday and the weekend will be free to do your own travelling. You will be primarily based in Mae Sariang, but may also spend some time in the remote hill tribe villages we work with. In the final week of your internship you will give a presentation to the FutureSense team and local community members of the projects you've been working on.

On the last day, you’ll either be transported back to the airport or you can continue on with your on travel.
